About the artwork
This work is a skateboard on which André Saraiva has depicted his famous character Mr. A in duplicate, smiling, round-eyed and cross-eyed, with a wide, mischievous grin. Drops of paint drip from both faces, and stains dot the skateboard's blue background. This work echoes the artist's universe, which has always fused urban art with everyday objects. This is an exploration of movement and fluidity through a simple skateboard, which becomes the medium for a reflection on skate culture, performance and art.
Expert opinion
Blue Drip Skateboard Deck perfectly embodies André Saraiva's spirit of fusion between art and popular culture.
About the artist
André Saraiva (born 1971) is a French artist and entrepreneur living and working in Paris. He is recognized as one of the pioneers of urban art, having discovered graffiti in 1989. Saraiva invented the iconic Mr. A character, which has become a significant visual identity in his work. With a prolific output, he has created nearly 150,000 tags of Mr. A on various surfaces, characterized by a bulbous face often adorned with a top hat and distinctive eyes. His practice extends beyond graffiti, reflecting his vision of contemporary society. Notable exhibitions include the Parco Museum in Tokyo in 2004, the 'La Force de l'Art' exhibition at the Grand Palais in Paris in 2006, and the 'Vraoum' exhibition at the Maison Rouge in Paris in 2009. He also exhibited at the Frieder Burda Museum in Baden-Baden, Germany, in 2014, and a retrospective was held at the Museu do Design e da Moda in Lisbon. His works are displayed in museums and contemporary art galleries around the world.
