About the artwork
This work by Alec Monopoly, recognizable by its satirical, pop-art style, features a gondola in Aspen - here renamed "A\$PEN" - filled with bills and bags of money, with the iconic characters of Scrooge McDuck (Scrooge) and Rich Uncle Pennybags (Mr. Monopoly), universal emblems of capitalism. On the floor, a stylized skier and a parodic version of Mickey Mouse accentuate the contrast between ostentatious luxury and caricatured consumerism. Elements such as the "Aspen Snow/Money" sign and the rain of bills reinforce the ironic critique of the ultra-rich world and the culture of excess. True to his urban aesthetic, Alec Monopoly here hijacks the symbols of childhood and economic power to turn them into a visual satire of luxury and superficiality.
Expert opinion

About the artist
Alec Monopoly is an American street artist from New York, active since the 2000s. He takes his pseudonym from the character "Mr. Monopoly", the central figure in his visual universe. Depicting this iconic banker in hijacked scenes, he humorously criticizes the excesses of capitalism, power figures and celebrity culture. Using spray paint, collage, markers and recycled materials, he develops a pop, colorful and satirical style. Based between Los Angeles and Miami, he is now represented by major galleries and has collaborated with brands such as TAG Heuer and Philipp Plein, while retaining a strong street art imprint.
