About the artwork
Artémiss is an emblematic sculpture by Alain Séchas, representing a half-feline, half-human anthropomorphic figure, created in a pop style. Its simple forms and clear lines are characteristic of the artist's visual language. With its frozen attitudes and uncluttered appearance, Artemiss explores the link between animality, mythology and humanity, and questions the duality between nature and civilization. Alain Séchas humorously revisits the ancient figure of the goddess Artemis in a more contemporary approach, with references to pop culture such as Lara Croft, while emphasizing an ironic sexualization that questions modern stereotypes of feminine power.
Expert opinion
This sculpture, emblematic of Alain Séchas, invites reflection on the human condition and its relationship to ancient archetypes, while offering a touch of the artist's trademark humor and lightness.
About the artist
Born in Colombes in 1955, Alain Séchas lives and works in Paris. He is known for his creations combining sculpture, painting and installation. He focuses on depicting animal- and human-like characters in ironic and offbeat situations. Inspired by popular culture and comic strips, his style combines graphic simplicity with societal reflection.
